Arbella Insurance Group Makes Public Commitment to Closing the Racial/Gender Wage Gap by Joining Boston Women’s Workforce Council

Employer Signs Pledge to Share Payroll Data, Address Inequities

BOSTON, MA (June 2021) – The Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC) today announced that it has expanded its sponsorship ranks with the addition of Arbella Insurance Group as an Anchor Signer of the 100% Talent Compact. With this action, Arbella’s leadership team is actively and publicly committing resources to help close the gender/racial wage gap among Greater Boston employers.

The announcement comes at a critical moment for gender/racial pay equity, as the nation rebounds and rebuilds from a “shecession” that kept millions of women out of the workforce and as the wage gap persists. According to BWWC data, women on average earn 30 cents less on the dollar than their male counterparts, and the disparity for women of color is as high as 55 cents.

“We are honored to be a part of this important initiative to achieve equitable pay and advancement for working women,” says Arbella Insurance Chairman, President and CEO John Donohue. “The BWWC is a model for how the public and private sectors can come together to close the wage gap and reinforce a commitment to gender equity. We look forward to working with BWWC and creating workplaces that work for everyone.”

Founded in 2013, the BWWC leads a unique public-private partnership between the Mayor’s Office and Greater Boston employers dedicated to eliminating the gender/racial wage gap. The BWWC recruits employers to sign the 100% Talent Compact, a pledge to examine their policies, work toward fixing pay and advancement inequities they might find, and share their payroll data on race and gender in order to provide a community snapshot on progress. It is a first-in-the-nation approach to removing the visible and invisible barriers to women’s advancement

Over 250 Boston-area employers have signed the compact. They represent a wide swath of organizations, ranging in size and industry. These employers are all working toward the common goal of making Boston the best place for working women. Arbella joins five other Anchor Signers including Mass General Brigham, MassMutual, Putnam Investments, State Street, and Vertex.

“We are thrilled to have Arbella as a key member of the Boston Women’s Workforce Council,” says Kim Borman, Executive Director of BWWC. “Arbella’s commitment to gender/racial pay equity is a testament to their values and can be a catalyst for other companies to join this movement to make Boston the best city for working women.”
