Laura Welz, AVP of Total Rewards, Sun Life

Laura Welz, AVP of Total Rewards, is a Human Resources professional with 25 years of diverse HR experience. Laura has been employed at Sun Life for over 6 years as the Compensation lead for the U.S. business and is a member of Sun Life’s global total rewards leadership team. In addition to Compensation, Laura recently added Retirement and Savings to her mandate. Laura has expertise in designing innovative solutions and compensation strategies for mergers and acquisitions, talent attraction, and retention.

Prior to Sun Life, Laura was the Director of Compensation at Dunkin’ Brands. During her time there she developed and implemented a new compensation program to drive market competitive pay and transparency, a recognition program to build employee engagement, and an employee stock purchase plan to align employee and shareholder interests. Having worked mostly in Compensation, Laura spent the early part of her career as a Human Resources Business Partner in the Financial Services, Medical Devices, and Quick Service Restaurant industries. Laura is passionate about pay equity and actively drives initiatives to close gender and diversity wage gaps. She facilitated Sun Life and Dunkin’ Brands becoming signors of the 100% Talent Compact through the Boston Women’s Workforce Council and Dunkin’ Brands as a signor of the White House Equal Pay Pledge under the Obama administration.

Laura holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Lesley University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Plymouth State University. Laura is a member of World at Work with a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.
