Red Hat, Inc. Makes Public Commitment to Closing the Gender and Racial Wage Gap

Major Tech Employer Signs Pledge to Share Anonymous Payroll Data, Address Inequities

BOSTON, MA (December 2021) – The Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC) today announced that it has expanded its ranks with the addition of Red Hat as an Anchor Signer of the 100% Talent Compact. With this action, Red Hat’s leadership team is publicly committing to help close the gender and racial wage gap among Greater Boston employers.

“We are honored to join the BWWC’s efforts to address the gender and racial wage gap,” said Margaret Dawson, Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Red Hat. “This pledge aligns with efforts already in place at Red Hat globally to ensure pay equity and gender equality. We are proud to be a part of this effort and hope our commitment can serve as a call for others in the field to join the movement for gender and racial pay equity.”

Founded in 2013, the BWWC leads a unique public-private partnership between the Mayor’s Office and Greater Boston employers dedicated to eliminating the gender and racial wage gap. The BWWC recruits employers to sign the 100% Talent Compact, a pledge to examine their workplace policies, remedy pay and advancement inequities they might find, and anonymously share their payroll data on race and gender to create a community snapshot on progress. The BWWC’s model is a first-in-the-nation approach to removing the visible and invisible barriers to women’s advancement.

Over 250 Boston-area employers have signed the Compact. They represent a wide swath of organizations, ranging in size and industry. These employers are all working toward the common goal of making Boston the best place for working women. Red Hat joins six other Anchor Signers including Arbella Insurance Group, Mass General Brigham, MassMutual, Putnam Investments, State Street Corporation, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals.

Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Red Hat has over 100 offices across 40 countries. As the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, Red Hat uses a community-powered approach to deliver reliable and high-performing Linux, hybrid cloud, container, and Kubernetes technologies of commercial software and services built with the open source development model.

“We are thrilled to have Red Hat as a pledge signatory,” says Kim Borman, Executive Director of BWWC. “We hope this commitment from such a formidable tech company will be a catalyst for other companies in the industry to join the movement.”
