In partnership with the Mayor of Boston, each year we recognize the 100% Talent Compact Signers that are using innovative initiatives aimed at closing the gender/racial pay gap and creating new opportunities for women within their companies and organizations.
In the past, we have recognized Compact Signers for the innovative work in these categories:
Decreasing the time to promotion for women
Closing the gender-based pay gap in total compensation for women
Advancing women of color
Increasing the ratio of women in the C-Suite, via hiring or promotion
Because of the unique circumstances in 2020, the BWWC chose to recognize the work that employers were doing to address the immediate needs of working women as a result of the global pandemic.
2020 Innovative Initiatives Awards Case Studies
Our 2020 Innovative Initiatives Awardees went above and beyond to support their employees and to close the gender/racial wage gaps in their organizations. They showed their commitment to the 100% Talent Compact and demonstrated how to imagine a new workplace in pursuit of eliminating long-standing gender inequities.
We are excited to share case studies on each Initiative, detailing their bold actions. We hope they serve as inspiration for how you can support your women workers as we continue to navigate how we work during the pandemic and beyond.
Boston Children’s Hospital
Through their “Caring During COVID Initiative,” Children’s instituted flex time opportunities, additional access to childcare for their employees, and in a partnership with Simmons University, allowed clinical staff to stay in residence halls in order to keep their families safe.
Liberty Mutual
Their COVID-19 response, through the WE@Liberty Women + Allies ERG, focused on employee self-care and wellbeing. They offered a time code that employees could use instead of flexible time off, as well as wellness events that were attended by more than 12,000 employees.
Massachusetts General Hospital, part of the Mass General Brigham system
Dr. Miriam Bredella addressed a key issue around gender equity in academic medicine: the lack of women participating in promotion-critical activities such as international presentations, visiting professorships, and Grand Rounds. As a result, 36 exceptionally talented women were matched with one to five national and/or international speaking engagements and affiliated mentors.
MassMutual
MassMutual provided employees with up to 80 hours of additional paid time off, implemented online fitness classes, and increased the number of covered Employee Assistance Program Sessions.
